Camp Harmony is a camp for homeless and disadvantaged children from seven to twelve years old who live in the Greater Los Angeles area. The camp is located in Malibu, California. They have about three hundred children and one hundred twenty-five counselors who are high school age. The camp operates for one week in August and one long weekend in February. The children enjoy many outdoor activities such as fishing, basketball, baseball and hiking. They also have indoor activities such as board games and arts and crafts. There are various mental health professionals, social workers and adult counselors there all the time. The teenage counselors go through two days of training and pay to work at the camp in order to raise money for the camp. This is called the Harmony Mentoring Program. As part of this program, each mentor, who is a teenage counselor, gets to spend time each month with the campers throughout the year. United in Harmony is the parent organization that was started by a woman named Robin Segal. Its cornerstone program is Camp Harmony. There is also one camp in Arizona named Camp Swift that brings together over one hundred children every summer. United in Harmony is also known for its winter camp and mentoring and leadership programs. They work with over ten different shelters and serve over 800 children each year. Camp Harmony is blessed with wonderful high school counselors who really care about their campers and with great adult support staff who give their time and energy to help others.
